Trish Kawka
President
Trish is the owner of Five Star Accounting (Calgary) Inc. Trish's accounting experience began after she received her B. Comm (Hons) at the University of Manitoba. After graduation, she started in public practice with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Winnipeg. Upon receiving her Chartered Accountant (CA) designation, she relocated to the Cayman Islands with her husband, Trevor. There she worked as an auditor for another two years.
From there, Trish accepted a position with UBS Fund Services (Cayman) Limited where she was a Fund Account Officer and worked with investment managers along with a large network of legal, audit, regulatory and banking professionals in order to prepare multi-class, multi-currency records for hedge funds. After their first child was born, Trish and Trevor returned to Canada and settled in Calgary.
While being a stay-at-home mother for two children, Trish enhanced her skills by doing contract work for an oilfield service company and later worked as a Manager in the MNP LLP Professional Standards Group in Calgary.Now that her children are both in school, Trish has thoroughly enjoyed growing her bookkeeping business in Calgary since inception in 2013. She loves the diversity of her clients, and assisting them with deadlines and other work that they consider headaches!
Trish believes her CA experience will allow her clients to have detailed, accurate, organized accounting records and financial statements that will help them make appropriate and timely decisions for their businesses.Outside of work and her family, Trish is passionate about food. She loves to cook healthy meals for her family and also loves to bake. She enjoys exercising, walking her big dog and keeping active with her family and friends! She also volunteers for the school, both of her children's hockey teams and her community association.
Tonya Truswell
Accounting Technician
Tonya has a strong professional office management background from working in a large law firm and has significant project management experience through her volunteer commitments. She has a diverse accounting and administrative background. She is intelligent, full of energy, embraces creativity and loves the fast-paced environment with constant deadlines at Five Star Accounting (Calgary) Inc. She is passionate about the work she does and works above and beyond her employer and client expectations. She is extremely organized and ethical in her daily work practices.
Tonya has two children and is actively involved in her community. She volunteers at her children’s school, with their golf, dance and hockey programs. She has established committees through school initiatives to help raise money to build a playground for a local elementary school. Tonya held the position of Chair on the Glencoe Junior Golf Committee for the last 2 years, where she helped develop and expand their junior programs in a variety of both fun and competitive areas.
Tonya enjoys most sports and recreational activities, spending time with her family, travelling and meeting new people.
